Derby Benefit 2004

featuring Carson Kressley, Tammy Faye, The Lady Chablis

LOUISVILLE, Ky. Women in frilly hats and men in sear-sucker

suits beware. Carson Kressley, the fashion savant on "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy," is bringing his couture culture to Louisville for the Kentucky Derby.

Kressley will join gay icons Tammy Faye Baker Messner; Thom Bierdz, the former William Chancellor III from the popular daytime soap "The Young and the Restless" and drag queen The Lady Chablis as headliners for the Derby Benefit 2004, a fundraiser for the Fairness Campaign.

The 4th annual benefit begins at 3 p.m. at The Olmsted, 3701 Frankfort Avenue, and runs until 10 p.m. The event is one of the largest Derby soirees in Louisville, with nearly 1,200 people from across the nation packing the party in 2003.

Tammy Faye and The Lady Chablis, the drag queen featured in the book "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil," will make their second consecutive appearance at the benefit. Tammy Faye had so much fun last year, she said, that she wanted to return in 2004. The party will also feature Louisville best-known female impersonators, Hurricane Summers and Asia: The Supermodel, and her dancers. A video DJ will be spinning music during the entire event and a jazz band will perform in the tent.

Admission is $30 per person, paid at the door. VIP packages are available for $250 to $1,000 and corporate sponsorships range from $500 to $5,000. This year's major sponsors are Jim Beam Brands, Absolut Vodka, Holiday Inn, Hurstbourne, Bob Kyser Allstate Insurance, Kentucky Derby Festival, OUTside Brands and Johnson & Gatewood Attorneys. All proceeds benefit the Fairness Campaign, which lobbies for gay rights in Louisville.
